Pinched hose? Loose or corroded electrical connection and/or ground. Usually if the fuel is contaminated or suffering from bacteria (slime or jelly like substance), it will lose power before shutting off and not be an abrupt shutoff.

For what it is worth, diesel owners may consider using a biocide as preventative measures against the slime (bacteria) that grows in diesel fuel. Once contaminated it is very difficult to resolve the problem by cleaning tank and filter. One must disassemble the filter housing and other fuel lines & components within the system.

I personally run a fuel additive (lubricant, cetane boost and gel protection) in addition to the biocide.

Here's an example of a biocide. There are many manufactures on the market, so pick what you want.

Here's an article written for boat owners who suffer the same fate with diesel fuel. If in the US the products may not be available, but you might find the background information interesting.
