What is this!?!?!

I found some funky stuff and I’m freaking a little. The stuff in the first picture is what I pulled from the opening in the second picture. It is like fiberglass of some sort

I can pull it apart, it is fiberglass. So you think it not related to the gator itself? It did look a little like a nest. What happens when a belt explodes?

There is no fibreglass anywhere on any gator.

If a belt "explodes" its mainly rubber pieces and strands of flax rope.
I have seen them get so worn or jump over the edge so they get chewed up and eaten by the vario making it look like the vario had a fight with a ball of yarn

Agree it looks like something was building a nest in the belt housing. Did you ever pull it apart and check it out?

No I didn't pull it apart, after hearing there no fiberglass on the unit and the more i look at it the more i do believe it was a nest. I'll probably pull it apart this winter/spring.
Thanks for the help everyone!!
