Without a properly hand fitted clutch or being lucky enough to have a usable factory clutch, these machines can easily fall victim to expen$ive transmission problems and turn into nothing more than expensive and bulky paper weights. I have developed the setup and understanding for producing bullet proof 550, 825 and 855 clutches.
Hello,
I have a 550 4x4 two row 2012 model and it never shifted properly but I dealt with it (ignored it). A kid got on it and couldn't get it to shift and think he got rough with it - now the shift lever and four wheel drive lever move free, but the machine is stuck in reverse. Would this be the primary clutch issue you are quoting?

Eric S

Sounds like a broken cable or a broken something.
But yes the rough shift is either the vario or the idle adjustment being too high

Estabinski,

From your description, it is highly likely that the primary clutch is not releasing. Fixing it, however, will not be all of the fix. The rough handling likely resulted in either internal transmission damage or a broken or otherwise damaged cable or shift linkage.

When shifting problems materialize, it is important to fix the shift problem before the transmission is damaged. Once the transmission is damaged, the clutch will still have to be dealt with to prevent damage to the repaired/replaced transmission.

In your case, I would find the shift lever on the transmission and see if you can get it to shift by manipulating the lever. If so, then the damage might be limited to the cable or shifter on the console.

Hope this helps.

Well he does say that the levers move free but it is stuck in reverse.
Which does not sound like a broken vario since you should be able to get it moving even when the vario is stuck when the engine is off
Secondly if the vario would be stuck you would not be able to move it anyway when the engine is on.

So that means its either the cable, shift lever or an internal gear problem.
Very likely the cable snapped.
We see a lot of people come in who not maintain their vehicles properly and fail to inspect repair or replace the vario.
The end result is generally bent shifter levers and broken cables.
Also shift levers can and have been bent so much that they can not get a full range of motion and its pretty common for people to get mad at their shifter as ive replaced a lot of levers so far.

Lastly keeping in mind that its the 2 cable system on the 550 means that the lever on top of the gear could have moved if it was already slightly loose.
That means that the lever must be clocked to the right position.
Its unlikely as i have a hard enough time to get the lever off generally but its totally possible

Hello,
I saw that you do custom repairs on 825i clutches. I believe my Gator is a 2012 (have to look again) that has always had a problem with the clutch disengaging fully. Consequently, the transmission is hard to get into gear and out of gear. At times, I have to shut the engine off to take it out of gear (engine RPM is low). The clutch was replaced by the dealer at approximately 60 hours and it worked fine at first. Now, at 100 hours, the same condition is back.

Do you rebuild the clutch so the issue is gone for good? If so, what is the cost and where are you located? Also, please provide your direct email. Thanks.
