825i 4x4 doesn't come on

When I flip the switch for 4x4 it doesn't come on 90% of the time. There's power to the switch.

Any ideas?

What type of switch do you have . Are you sure that it ohm's across correct. Check the grounds on the frame next to the battery, remove them and clean the frame and reinstall. You can check voltage at front solenoid. Also remember speed sensor works with the 4x4. on the bottom of transmission. And I believe below 8 mph to work.

It's stuck in limp mode at the moment so I can't get it going too fast. The 4x4 indicator does not come on the instrument cluster when I turn the switch on.

Have you tried to place jack stands on all fours and engage the 4x4 switch?

Before going any further is there anything else wrong the community should know that might help in providing guidance?

It might be best to fix the limp mode first, unless someone can verify 100% it is not impacting 4x4 function.

After fixing limp mode, verify battery voltage is getting to the actuators/solenoid. If no voltage past the switch, you'll need to trace back to battery to find the root cause.

Took it for a slow drive as it's still stuck in limp mode, but the 4x4 did come on once the machine was moving.
Now to try to get it out of limp mode.

First thing I would check is your connections to your 4wd toggle switch. When I bought my 825 the guy I got it from told me the 4wd was out of it. I was going to start by ohm checking the toggle switch, when I pulled the switch out, it was not plugged into the harness. Plugged it in and 4wd worked.

Just food for thought.
