I have an 06 gator hpx gas that has no power, won’t climb any sort of incline, will bog down and die. Replace plugs, coils, fuel pump and fuel filter. Also cleaned carb. Still falls on its face. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

As a FYI, when sourcing parts Deere does not reference the DOM or Date of Manufacture, they use the PIN or Product Identification Number.

Depending on the model, the PIN can be found on a placard in front of right rear tire on the frame OR stamped on the frame under the passenger seat and sometimes on a label near the rear hitch.

If you are curious as to the DOM of your Gator, look under John Deere Gator Forums, click on the first discussion area What Year Is My Gator then click on Model Year Lookup Table If your PIN is not there see your dealership.

There are several online Deere part warehouses such as Green Farm Parts (use code GTT for discount) or Green Parts Store (use code TTWT for free shipping). These online companies can often provide better pricing than local dealerships.

1. Does this happen in low gear?
2. Did it ever climb the hill? ie: is this something new?
3. Worn drive belt
4. Plugged exhaust
5. Dragging brakes
6. Low engine compression (down on HP)
7 Is throttle opening completely
8. Low barometric pressure

So why were the parts replaced? Defective or a shot in the dark that it would fix the symptom?

Does clean carb mean - Disassembled and verified every passage is clean with no obstructions including passages under a welch plug? Is float level correct?

I took carb off took apart and cleaned anything I could get to, then boiled it for an hour or so to get out anything I could not reach. Put back together and nothing changed. Replaced most parts as a maintenance kit fro John Deere just to make sure it hade new tune up parts. This unit was purchased at an auction and was labeled inop, well it idles fine but has no power. Belt is good, it never did climb a incline. Have not checked compression, didn’t think it was running bad enough for that, but will check on Monday. Has spark fuel and air. Exhaust is not plugged.

Is the belt new, if not how did you determine the “ belt is good” ?

Have you throughly cleaned both clutch’s with hot soapy water and or non chlorinated brake cleaner followed by compressed air, remove cover on Primary and use a nylon brush to clean properly.

Visually inspected belt, no cracks no signs of wear. Assuming it’s not stretched. Have not cleaned clutches, this is a learning experience for my boss and myself. Small engines have always given me a run for my money, not sure why! Lol. I am a certified diesel mechanic and automotive mechanic for 20+ yrs. Not sure why these small engines kick my butt. Thanks for your information I will clean clutches Monday as well.

Unless you physically measure the width of the belt in several different areas and the belt is within specifications a visual inspection will lead you astray. Additionally, always use low gear when climbing an incline otherwise you are burning and slipping the belt, after a belt has been burnished it is done.

I will measure the belt. When I say climbing a incline, I am talking about any sort of incline, not hills, which if it could make it out of the driveway than I would definitely use low gear if needed to climb. Lol. it’s on a farm, pretty level flatland. Thanks

mine did that and one side of the carb. was stopped up in the jet took 2 cleaning and pushing tip cleaners throught the jets but she running just fine now that carb. has really tiny jets
