Hello Everyone, Well I'm new to this forum, my first post, traded in my 2012 Cam Am 1000 XT for the Gator trail model, took it out for the first time today, I like it alot, runs out real nice, not as much power as the Can Am but I new this going with the Gator, The Gator handles better than the Can Am, is a little bit queitier, very smoth, seems to be more nimble also, much easier to get in and out of, very impressed so far.

OK, now on to a strange thing that happened to me, it did this same thing twice, I as riding down a dirt road at approx. 30 mph and then coasted down and pulled over to the side of the road idling in gear for about 15 seconds, all of a sudden smoke started pouring out from under the machine, alot of smoke, I could smell it was a belt burning so I just gave it some gas and the way we went, no further problems until the next time it did it, same thing smoke all over the place, gave it some gas and the way we went, now it has not it since, just those 2 times, WTF, anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like the clutches not releasing at idle, I'll take it for another spin next weekend and see if this still happens and I will also let my dealer know about this.
Thanks
kener

Welcome to the forum!!!!!!!!!!!

That is weird!!!!!! Sounds like the clutches not being released. Has yours had all the PiPs done to it, including the new shifter and shift linkage adjustment????

After you coast down, was it creeping along, or hard to shift at all, while you were idling? That would indicate clutches not releasing. Definitely interested to hear what comes out of this--keep us posted! :)

There was a Product ImProvementreleased for the shifter. They install a new shifter or something to do with the shifter and also do a linkage adjustment. I would check with my dealer if you have not had it done.

belt burning

Hello, when I slowed down to an idle I never took it out of gear, just sat there with foot on the brake and all of sudden smoke started to pour out from under machine, so I just gave it some gas and it took off no problem, both times.

I would say linkage issue or the clutches are not releasing.

belt replacement

I looked up belt replacement for JD Gator RSX and a couple of u-tubes came up about how to change belts, it looks like a real pain in the ass.

I've looked at the manual a few times and agree, it will be a PITA (though just time consuming). Anyway, I had the skid plate off the other day to check for any accumulated debris, etc. Just for kicks I got to feeling around the belt housing to see if BY SOME SMALL CHANCE a person could change the belt from the bottom. It may be possible, but a person would have to have some long ratchet extensions and some small fingers in order to access everything. I helped a buddy change the belt on his ranger the other day and it was a breeze. I think JD needs to modify something on the understructure where you can drop the skid plat and get to things easily. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed.......there needs to be an easier way to getting to the belt than taking apart the cab to change a simple CVT Belt.

RSX850I Trail Smoking

I'm having the same issue with my new RSX850I Trail, smoking while idiling in gear with the parking brake on. It only does it every now and then. Only difference is the smoke is coming out of the exhaust. You might want to verify where the smoke is coming from, like you said it is a ton of smoke.

I've had mine back to the dealer once and they could not figure out this problem.

It is currently back in the shop now to figure out what the problem is.

Thanks for the info. about the shifter and linkage, was having issues with this as well.

The new gator is awesome need to get the bugs out.

Wondering if anyone had the same problem with exhaust smoke.

Hello:

I'm 100% my problem was the belt burning, I know the difference of rubber burning and oil smell burning, in the meantime my machine has run perfect.
