2012 825i cam shaft broke in half. It appears to be a bad casting. The shaft is hollow inside. Has anyone had this experience?

Do not recall anyone posting such a failure mode.
Is it designed to be hollow or is it a porosity or void problem?

Is there anything else wrong in the valve train/timing system that may have caused higher the normal loads? Poor chain tensioners, incorrect lash, valve float (weak springs), etc.

Can you post a pic of the break and the hollow center? I have seen a camshaft break from a seized journal, but the whole engine was ruined from low/dirty oil and that was just what broke first.
