The clutch requires a special tool to remove. You might check with your local John Deere dealer about borrowing it or how much they would charge to remove it for you.

I called JD dealer about my clutch, he said a new one was $435.00 and 1Hr to install @$100.00 an hour. That's in Canada, probably cheaper in the USA. I thought why mess with it for a whole day not knowing what I'm doing for a $100.00....Just my way of thinking..............Mine is sticking a bit so I put some of that nut loose stuff , the red stuff I forget the name. It freed it up a lot and brought out some old grim from inside the bellhousing, the I generously sprayed it with dry graphite and it seems to work pretty good. I do need a new clutch as my bellhousing has a crack. Wow I just noticed this post is from 2011...............OOOPS MY BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
