Not even if it was a load of feathers. I am using a 12v Actuator that has 8 inches of travel on both of mine. The 4x2 has been getting 1000bs of dirt from my shid steer and moving it 20 acres away and dumping without issue. 6000 newtons is 1350 pounds of lift/push/pull. Amazon for about 50 bucks each, on off on switch from autozone- NO LIMIT switch though though, if you over extend or over retract, you will break something or bend metal, for sure.

If the gas spring offered substantial lift force, it would be very difficult to close bed.

Electric all the way as others suggest.

Thanks for your input now one more question how do you hold the bed up while replacing the cylinder?
Easily accomplished with a six pack of cold beer. ....and a friend. No seriously, a broom stick maybe? Or maybe a tie down strap from the tree limb or garage door? A block of wood wedged in near the hinge?
