I have a problem with my RSX 850 i gator not charging.
Here are the things I have done and checked:
1. Checked and cleaned connectors.
2. Replaced battery
3. Replaced voltage regulator.
4. Tested wires from stator to voltage regulator 80 Volts each.
5. Checked fuses.
Still the battery runs down after a bit of driving. Any one have any idea's of what to check next?
Ground wire for the battery and between frame and engine. What is the voltage between charger and battery. Is there any drop between them (voltage)? Any drop between battery ground and engine?
Thanks for the reply. I did find the problem after testing everything. After replacing the voltage regulator and testing to make sure output was going to the battery. I found the new battery from JD was bad the voltage was coming to the battery but it would not take the charge. Brand new battery and would only put out 11.4 volts. Picked up new battery every thing is good.

I keep a pack of 5 40 amp fuses in the glovebox.
I replace both of the ones under the hood whenever the charge light on the dash comes on.
Depending on how much I use the machine, it’s usually twice a year.
I use the machine mainly for plowing snow up here 7 months a year.
Heavy use on the winch and lighting systems cause them to fail.
I’m going to replace the unit this winter with a 835 with heat and AC.
Should make those -40 temps bearable while plowing snow. Lol
Lots of owners have relocated the fuse panel from the wheel well area to the trunk. They also replaced the wiring to a heavier gauge, which has reportedly greatly helped.
Apparently the OEM location of the panel is susceptible to moisture and corrosion, increasing the wiring amperage rating allows for improved battery charging from the stator system.

Listen we had this same issue me and my husband are mechanics all you need to do is run a cable to from the negative side of the battery to the engine block because John Deere does not do this from the factory. They run it to the frame it’s not a good connection. (1. The frame it’s bolted to is painted 2. The frame is not grounded to the motor ) This is also the reason why the charging fuse burns out of the fuse box. because it is not grounding properly the battery is not grounded to the motor where the charging system is at. The light bar should not be wired through the ignition. It should be wired through relay that goes directly to the battery. And the relay should be wired to an ignition source. Hope this helps you. Good luck!
How do you test voltage regulator on a john deere RSX850i
