I ordered a new rsx 2 weeks ago. I just got it today and was checing the paperwork and it is a 2013? Says it was built Oct 8th 2013. It has an 020000 serial number instead of the 030000 of the newer ones. This is bull
. Here it is February 2014 and I specificly said I wanted a 2014 that is why I ordered it. Its a model year old. I can't find a year anywhere on my paperwork. I kind of feel slided on this. I should have got a freshly built machine right off the line. What can I do? Are there any disadvantages to it being the older model? Have there been any refinements since it was built? Is this why JD threw out that 1K rebate, 2 yr jdesp warranty and 0 for 36 just to get rid of a bunch of units in a warehouse? Can I take it back? To top it off the back side of the roll bar on the passenger side is all gouged up. I got it friday to do some snow riding this weekend but there it sits in the garage with all but 2 miles on it. Im scared to take it out for fear they won't do anything about all this.

I would definitely make them get me a new cage. It shouldn't have scratches on it. Mine had some scratches on the tailgate when it came in and they gave me a new cover. Haven't put it on yet but still wanted it right. Make them order you a new one but don't put it on till you sell it or roll it over.

As far as the year model goes, I would let them know that it is supposed to be a 2014 model if you ordered it in 2014. I think model year changes after the 1st of November. That is the way tractors are. Could have been built in Oct 13 but technically it is a 14 model. However, don't put it past the dealer to have had it at another store that happen to match what you ordered and stuck you with a stock-ordered machine that they couldn't get rid of.

I would recommend not riding it at all til you try and resolve these problems cause they dang sure wont do anything if it was to have 100 miles on it.

Let me know what you find out about it. I buy lots of equipment from John Deere dealers around me and I could at least ask the guys I deal with if what your dealer did was right or wrong and if something could be resolved.

Best of luck to you,
Zach

I still think it is a 2013. The build sheet says 2013 then a bunch of numbers then says stocker. I haven't seen the mso on it. If it says 2014 i'll just go after them for the cage. The pisser is they dont put a year on the purchase order it just says new rsx 850i-no year. This really sucks because I have been pretty good friends with the store manager for 10 years. Way back when I bought a new 2210 sub compact off of him and his dads dealership before JD wiped out all the small dealerships. I've bought numerous garden tractors from him too. Sent a bunch of people up there to buy equipment also.

I see it the same as you. If I ordered a 2014 that is what I should get. I'm sure they will try and help you out, especially since you have been dealing with them for a decade. I don't think there is a bit of difference in the model year but I would want the newest year.

1m0850ttjdm020843 is the serial number. 2013100733033 is the product sequence number. I have other numbers too if you need them.

Machine Build Date : 09 Aug 2013

This is what is coming up in JD's Warranty System.

I am not sure what your dealer can do other than maybe take a bit more money off but John Deere wont ship a later Model Year if they still have Prior Model Years in their warehouse. I just went thru a class on the RSX and there are just tiny changes but nothing major at all.

As for the ROPS being gouged, the dealership should have put in a warranty claim on it and at least tried to fix it. That i would definately go after.

The nice thing at least is you got $1000 + a 2 year warranty. More than i got when i bought mine in September which was a 2012 model. Only way you might get hurt is if you decided to trade it in being that it shows a model year older, but if you are like me than that really wont matter because you will fall in love with it and not want to get rid of it.

He is telling me he is damn near positive that it will be a '14 model by the invoice date. The build date on my build sheet says it was built oct 8th. How are they different what mine says vs. what you came up with. They are going to take care of the roll bar either by swapping it out for another on the floor or trying for a warranty claim which I would rather they not do. I don't want that showing up on the warranty history. If I saw that I would think it was rolled. I paid 13345 for a camo trail with the poly roof. Good deal?

Lit up light switches, Reduced the amount of air that gets from the radiator to the foot platform. There was something else but it was small like that.

What is your biggest beef about a 13 vs. a 14? It's basically the same machine, and you still got 1000 off and a 2 year warranty free which is $750 list, i'd personally just buy it and ride it! If you are worried about trade values then i could understand but after 5 years a 13 vs 14 wont matter anyway in trade.

I am concerned about the resale/trade value. I ordered a 14 and want a 14 model. I won't keep it 5 years. I'm sure there will be a better one by then. Its just the point of it all even if I kept it forever. You order one to suit you in Feb 2014 it dame sure better be a 14 model. Just found out the 10th digit/letter denotes the year of the machine. Mine is a D which means 2013 model. Anything with a 17 digit serial number follows these guidelines. I know its different with tractors and ag equipment. I don't want it if it is a 2013-plain and simple and I think if they told me it would be a 14 I shouldn't settle for less right? The price was the price if I took one off the floor or ordered a new one. Things are not heading in the right direction here.

10th digit says C which would be 2012 from what I have found.

That's interesting because I had the dealer call and verify that I would be getting a 2013 and not a 2012. I ordered Jan 6 and knew that it wouldn't be a 2014....he said that they prob wouldn't start producing those until June-July and that was why there was a rebate and extended warranty available which makes sense. I would like to know if it's a 2012 though......

Actually I received an insurance notice in mail today that the VIN# didn't match the states records. I just gave insurance company the one on the paperwork so I guess I need to check with VIN on gator to verify.....
