Hell all. Just bought a +/-500 hour 2004 hpx gas model. It's all there, but a bit rough around the edges. Brought it straight to a friend's house to sort out the carb. I'll be hitting you all up for some info and advise! Thanks in advance.

Had a minute today. It's a project for sure. Almost feels like I'm only running on one cylinder. Did a couple of laps around the house. Did amazing on a freshly excavated moderately steep climb even with the racing slicks. Bed is going to get a plywood box for the short term. I think I need to pull the cab, found the front upper frame tube is rusted at the shock mount. I can move the shock around by hand. Also passenger side bottom of cab frame is rotten pretty bad. Can't fix it properly without removing the ab. Also noticed a torn outer CV boot while I was there, is there a boot repair kit? Lots of grease in there so it looks like a recent issue. Bottom of doors need rust repair too. Says 550 hours on the meter, someone didn't take good care of it for sure.

If you need parts? Power Sports Nation in Norfolk Nebraska might be able help?

Old model hpx with the green frame, have a weak spot for these for some unexplainable reason because they werent all that great.

With plenty of parts available i would put a new frame section in from a different hpx.
But your situation might not allow for it.

I would however check compression though since it had a rough life it might have had a lack of services and the internals might or might not have suffered.
Better to be safe than sorry.
Its probably just carburettor or valve adjustment related though.

You could maybe just make a bed youself, throw away the sides reuse the support structure and fit a nice teardrop pattern plate.
Its probably what i am going to do on my gator aswell.
Could make some nice built in eyes on the sides too

I had a friend go through the carb. It starts and idles alot better but under power feels awful. I can weld so the frame repair doesn't bother me, just lack of free time! For the bed I might swap for a home oil tank. Width is good, length is a bit too long. Thanks for the info. Winter is coming, there is a possibility it might just sit till spring

Found a small engine guy in town who used to work at a JD dealership for something like 30 years. Very familiar with the old Gator's. Going to bring it to him this weekend to see what's up with the running issues. Still feels like its only running on one cylinder. Coil maybe. IDK, and don't have time to mess with it as winter has arrived and my truck still needs a water pump and an electrical drain fixed.
