So I purchased this thing for $2,000 not really taking an in depth look at how severe the rust really was. Today marks the first day of the "restoration" of this thing. It's a 1996 so I guess for just shy of 20 years this is expected. I'll keep this thread updated with pictures of the progress. The only thing keeping me motivated is that the motor runs strong, so yeah.

Any progress? I just picked up my own rust bucket (trade valued at $700-$900). Plan is it get it running good in the short term, and perhaps this winter tearing it all apart for the rust repairs.

I'm in a similar situation. Look into a product called POR-15. There is a little bit of prep to the rust, but once this stuff is painted over it, it hardens like a rock. It goes on black, and isn't UV resistant, so you'll need to paint back over it. It won't fix holes or weak points. But it will keep the rust from spreading if you did the prep work right.
