I have and old Gator 4x2 and need to replace the carburetor. The engine model is Kawasaki FE290D- DS08. I have searched the internet everywhere and cannot find a carburetor that fits this particular engine. Would anyone here have any ideas on where I might find a replacement? Thanks in advanvce.

That's what I did, plus "carburetor".

This engine is used in numerous applications and vehicles. That sub part number is not relevant in this case. Click on the Google link I provided.

You can't Google a John Deere Kawasaki engine and hope to find an oem Kawasaki part number for a John Deere purchased product. John Deere when they install another brand engine onto one of their branded products they buy exclusive distribution and warranty rights to that engine and power train... Now that said... Here's what you can do if you're hell bent on getting an aftermarket carburetor: Look up the part on John Deere parts site... Then Google that part number and you'll probably find all sorts of cheap and even maybe an OEM part directly from Kawasaki that is used on other Kawasaki engines

Then go look up your unit by its PIN on John Deere parts site and get the one that matches your machine and engine... That would be the best way of doing it... The carburetor number stamped on the side is internal for Mikuni or Keihin primarily and have nothing to do with actual part number through Deere unless catalog asks specific model or number on carburetor... They can also use that number for a kit as well... On a side note... The carburetor they'll sell you will sometimes have a hesitation out of the box and if you don't have experience in tuning a carburetor to your conditions then I suggest someone else handle the repair from there

I had a 4x2 a couple of weeks ago that the first tech that worked on it just disassembled the carburetor and threa it in the ultrasonic cleaner and threw it back together... Same exact thing... It hunted while foot on throttle and wouldn't idle... He came over and asked my opinion which a responded by asking if hed flow tested it? He said yes... So he did the same thing again: Pulled it, disassembled it, tanked it, reassembled, and threw back on with it doing same thing again... After he left and went home early the boss came out and said he wanted a second opinion because we were way over on hours for this and now losing money... So... I just started all over again because it was still had the symptoms and discovered the following: No flow through the pilot circuit, main jet looked okay, removed the pilot screw plug and pulled it out and discovered some ethanol damager which cleaned up pretty easily... Then discovered the pilot jet wasn't flowing so I used my Honda carburetor tool and my jet drills to clear it... Afterwards I reassembled it up to the point of being ready to install the float bowl, then flow tested the pilot / transfer circuit, and then flow tested the main jet... With everything in order I reinstalled the unit and adjusted the pilot jet to run a little richer... After I got it back together and running there was no more hunting, it idled, and magically that hesitation was gone... It never hurts to clean a carburetor that didn't come in with excessive moisture damage from water or ethanol...
