Hydraulic Dump Bed Stuck In Up Position 825i

My bed lifts fine but will not retract. This happened when it was brand new but I didn’t take it back under warranty period. Lifted bed tonight and it has done it again. The pump makes noise with no movement when I hit the down button. I can’t force it down and unhooking the piston from the bed and trying it at a lower angle doesn’t help. Any ideas?

Update: As randomly as it happened, it started working again. I’ll just cycle it a few times before raising it all the way and see if that helps. There must be a valve sticking.

Good news ! Did you say that you checked electrical connections to the solenoid?

I’m still having the same problem with my bed hanging up. I had to access the clutch and belt today so I had no choice but to raise the bed for access. It refuses to go down. I looked up the info on the KYB MMP-4 to troubleshoot but haven’t gotten anywhere. The brochure says there is a manual relief valve for cases of failed power etc but it will not lower even having backed that screw out considerably.

I’m attaching a link to a YouTube video I took of it today.

My best guess is the valve that keeps it from free moving either up or down when static is not releasing internally.

Same issue with XUV625i

I used information on this forum to guide me through the resolution of the same problem with an XUV625i. At first, I thought the issue was the dash panel switch. I hunted a replacement on Ebay; replacing the switch did not change things. I then hunted the solenoids mentioned in the thread. I pulled both of them, one at a time, and cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner. That did not resolve the issue. I then tried swapping them, and when I hit down, the bed lowered, but I did not remove my finger from the switch quick enough, and now the bed is down but I cannot elevate it!. I went on several websites before breaking down and calling my dealer. The part is listed as a relay, AT75769. I have one replacement and two spares en-route. So now I have to crawl under the gator, and try to either access the relays (when the dealer installed the lift kit, the relays were tied with wire ties to the wire bundles, not attached to the frame) by feel, OR, if I can reach it, I will pull the pin from the dump kit hydraulic rod end that ties the bed, so that I can get the bed up and access the relays. Something that concerns me about many of the JD XUV625i electrical connections, is that there is absolutely no protection from splashing. I do plan to use electrical tape and seal those and all other connections I can locate.

My 2013 825i box lift switch raised the bed just fine. After and hour or so of non related work, selecting "down" on the switch the switch would not lower the box lift. You spoke about relay sounds. I do not hear anything like that. I'm not sure I ever heard that. Should there be clicking sounds from the solinoides?

I am also going through electrical plugs, wiring and fuses but as of yet find nothing.

My 2011 825i also sticks the bed in the up position. The pump/motor does run while the bed is stuck in the up position but the bed doesn’t move. JD advise is to shake it, but I can’t shake it hard enough I guess. If I crank it and motor around the back forty it will lower for me while the Gator is going through its paces. That makes it sound like a mechanical issue to me.

That’s all I have now, but I will get into it and figure it out later.

Have you checked or cleaned the electrical connections ?

Did you find a solution? I am having the same issue.

my bed was stuck in the up position also. mine was the pump not letting the fluid back out of it, it was not drawing it back out. I took the hole pump and assemble apart, it looked like it had some dirt in the fluid just seemed dirty. there was dirt in the part where the valves are at. one side is the motor and other is the fluid when you open it do it to where its standing up and wont spill a lot. i didnt do that made a mess. there is some some parts in there be carefull not to lose them i dont think you can get new ones. it took me 4 times putting that thing together. but its working now. dont really know why its sticking in the up position, but think its just dirt from use in a dirty environment. the hydraulic fluid in it is very thin i use floor jack fluid i got at i parts store to refill it. after i had it apart i could use a large wood clamp to get it back in all the way.

If you've figured out how to repair these, you could go into business providing repair service for all the 825i owners that are having the same problem: the hydraulic unit extends but won't retract. You can hear the pump running, so it must be a problem with the relief valve or control valve. The issue will be the difficulty of finding replacement parts like the valve spring someone else mentioned.
