Thanks guys... ordering a new clutch and puller today

My gator is derating itself at full throttle but not at 3/4 throttle, but as soon as i go full throttle it starts loosing power, i can get to top speed at 3/4 but not at full, can this be caused from o2 sensors or fuel regulator, any thoughts would be appreciated

Well new clutch installed and no more problems... its a shame I had to fix it... John Deere was no help since out of warranty... when the problem existed from day one... the dealer kept saying its was a belt rubbing issue...

70miles on brand new RSX , was getting close to first oil change , everybody said how tight there oil filter were to get off the first time, even the dealer said it would be a pain .Well went for a little ride to finish off the 8 hour of break in time, when my friend notice a puddle of oil under my at one of our stops, turn out the oil filter loosen up and was leaking oil. Wow what a close call , it was about 1-1/2 quart low. So people with new RSX might want to check them.Maybe deere had to many complaints and are not putting them on super tight anymore.

Not sure on miles.. Had it for about a year. Smoked the belt last Saturday going up a hill in thick mud. Could've made the belt housing easier to get to.

570 miles on the 850i RSX
Been to Hatfield Macoy rock house, Ride royal blue. The Cliffs, Badlands, Sand dunes Mi. Only the front end started to Make noise, dealer found no fluid and no shaft seals , took care of it, it has to be one of the first few produced from JD.
Just had all the JD updates done at 4 seasons JD, the owner personally did the work an had it back in a day or two. They where 3 weeks back but he knew I road it a lot , and also wanted to get familiar with it As he's selling more.
I thought that was pretty cool. :) I can't say the same about my last dealer.
O I did have issues with the seat latch not holding, fixed under warranty.

Iv been looking into getting an rsx sport. Its been sitting in the showroom since they were introduced. There arent many being sold in this area. Is there anything important to watch out for with the first model years?

80 hrs, 1000 miles. I'm still having electrical issues, I melted (yes, melted) the right side fuse block this past Saturday night. I'm tired of being pulled home by a Polaris, so I guess if ya can't beat em, join em. John Deere will always make a good tractor, I just dont think they went all-in on this "recreational" line.

I really hate it for you man, sounds like you got a lemon. I ride with Polaris all the time and usually its those that are being winched out if they come out at all... That being said, I had a bit of user error this past weekend whenever I changed my axle out. Last Saturday whenever I threw my Gator into reverse down at the creek the caliper evidently came loose and went through the wheel. After closer inspection I deemed the point of failure to dirt getting into the bolt and not allowing it to tighten up properly, or I may not have gotten the bolts tight in the first place... But I'd rather blame it on the dirt than seek a new profession lol.

And I pulled this out of the wheel..

But after a new wheel, caliper, lines and fluid I have a very valuable "bought lesson" to double check my work more thoroughly in the future. Still the only problems I've been having out of the Gator have been 110% my fault. Great machine.

250 mi. My battery took a dump. I think it sat at john Deere in the premade machines to long and it just kicked the bucket. Got it warrentied luckely. Not a big deal just thought it was weird that a 5 month old machine would have a battery go bad especially when we were using it 5 minutes earlier.

54 hrs on my machine replaced clutch and belt thats pretty much it other than the fuse problem which everyone knows about oh and my battery took a dump too

Bought mine new in November of 2012 and now have appx 100hrs and 400 miles on it.

-crushed oil line running between frame and poly skid plate
-water in gas tank from running in 6-12 inch deep water...huh?
-overheating that was supposedly caused by faulty display, nope
-melted 40amp fuse...dealer says wire not pushed into fuse correctly
-shudder when taking off...either clutch or belt, idk
-way too much heat radiating from engine bay...need a fix bad

Really wish I had gone a different route, but maybe once I fix the problems Deere deems acceptable, it will be a decent machine.

On a different note, this site has been extremely helpful.

has anyone one else had that problem with a bunch of heat radiating in the passenger bay and what have you tryed to fix it

Once again "drive problems"

I bought my gator in dec 2012. I ride very hard rides. Mud included. I have been to the dealer for repairs several times. Once they replaced the whole front diff. Next they replaced rear diff seals. That time they did not put ANY fluid back in the rear diff. Good thing I checked it. Since I bought it there has been a popping under my seat. I assumed it may me a universal joint. Every time I took it up to dealer they claim it's fine. Still popping and has gotten worse. Changed belt twice since the factory belt. Now the mid Trans is taking on water somehow. Not sure if there is a sealing surface on it or not beyond the belt replacement. I even added a snorkle to prevent this kind of water damage. I don't never sink it really, but water level has been almost at my lap on a few rides. I am starting to dread buying this machine. While I now have several more years to pay on it I still cannot ride it like I should be able to. I did not buy it to drive on a farm. The machine has to be able to handle rough mountain riding. Including some mud. And the othe issue is there is NO upgrade parts for this sxs. Everything is dealer only. It's only factory replacement parts. Come on and get with the program john deer! Your sights with these machines should be far greater than a cow pasture. Albeit, this thing has no problem what so ever about going wherever other sxs goes. But the damages "drive train related" has got to come to a end. I would like one day to actually spend money on suspension upgrade instead.

jcarr check out superatv.com they are basically our only aftermarket hope haha. iv been looking around as hard as i can and have found some places but all they do is buy from superatv and resale at a higher price even used superatvs pics smh

Valve problems

I have 674mi with 75hrs. I was driving down a country road and it just started bogging out running on one cylinder. Acted like it wasn't getting fuel or spark because right cylinder was running cold. swapped fuel inj from side to side still had same issue. Thought O2 sensor was bad on right side so plugged into left side still nothing. Patience were dwindling at this point so figured it was either blown up or inj fuel sendor was bad. Checked compression on right side and the gauge wouldn't even move. And thinking if it was bad should read something. Well checked left side was around 200 or so everything there was fine. Really found it weird to not have ANY compression on the right cylinder so figured valves were stuck open. Took valve cover off and noticed rocker arms didn't have any tension on the valves what so ever just sloppy sloppy. With further inspection noticed on both intake valves on the rocker arm there is a little cup I would call it that comes in contact with valve stem that were broke off on both intake valves. The reason I wasn't getting any compression at all because it wasn't letting any air in. So now kind of inastonishment over this deal thinking I cannot be the only poor SOB with this problem. Calling Deere in Am to see if there's a pip out on this or what. Never seen anything happen like this before.

I have 1300 miles on my RSX trail and the only problem that has happened was the oil filter leaked. Found out that the gator uses the same oil filter that the John Deere lawn tractors that Lowes sells. A quick trip to Lowes fixed that problem. John Deere needs to put a better skidplate on these machines, mine is trashed
