Jumpy at low speed

70 miles on machine. Only issue I have (beside how loud it is in the cab) is when you just try crawling along slow, it is very jumpy. Anybody know if this is a clutch issue. Thanks

Probably clutch and/or belt.

Update on my RSX gator. Just turned 3000 miles.only problem other than winch is drive belt
Broke at 2600 miles. Have Yamaha rhino with
7000 miles belt broke at 5000 miles.also have can am commander with 3500 mile ,belt broke at 1700
Miles. So the more HP u have the shorter miles the belt last.

Bought a new RSX850i in April 2014, got it 3 weeks later. Received the ownership certificate a month later saying it was a 2013... Starter went out 2 months later, warranty item, 2 months after that it would not idle, then would die. warranty item fixed. 8 months after purchase it would not start intermittently. Took it to JD. They acknowledged the no start, checked all the wires and it seemed to start. They didn't charge me. Now every now and then it won't start initially, but after a few try's it starts. Not real happy

first iv ever heard of it not wanting to start. hmm

800 miles and the front end made a little clicking noise so I put it in 4 wheel drive and it went alway .thought it was odd and with us leaving in ten days for Hatfield and McCoy trails I took it in to have it check.they found it needs a whole new front diff.luckly I got the extended warranty. The bad is Deere is out of stock but is expecting a shipment in so hopefully they can get it fixed in time.

I have exactly 8 hours and maybe about 60 miles and the low oil pressure light came on. It's in the shop waiting to get looked at.

Update: Low oil pressure light was because of a faulty wire that rubbed on the frame and wore through and was causing a short according to the dealer.

I guess I will add mine. Roughly 6hrs and 12miles I found the speedometer wasn't plugged into the rear axle and the fuel gauge didn't work. I plugged the wire into the rear axle and
speedometer worked (must have been a Monday build). Awaiting dealer to say what fuel gauge problem was, will edit post when I find solution.

*EDIT*
The fuel gauge issue my machine had turned out to be a faulty sending unit. Deere & Co warrantied it.

I've got about 700 miles on mine (I've owned it for about 170 of those). My fuel gauge started acting up last week. Full shows just over half a tank and with one bar on the gauge it only took 3.5 gallons to fill it up. Kind of annoying but oh well.

23.3 hours and 210 miles. We're on our 3rd clutch and, what I assume will be 4th, when I take it back in next week for the same issue. Apparently it's not too fond of Louisiana summers.

I am seeing a lot of clutch issues on the RSX850 series gator. I am curious if everyone having clutch issues has stock tires or have changed them out to larger aftermarket tires. I have been told by a few mechanics at my shop when you go to a larger tire that you need to change springs in the clutch to compensate. Is there any truth in this?

the problem with the clutches are the same problem as the 825i they r not exactly set up for the climate they are being used in. i had a clutch go out late last year at the end of summer. i rode it all fall and winter with no problem. here it is the summer again iv noticed it is acting up just a lil. the reason they say to add a "clutch kit" is to make the engine engage at a higher rpm thus keeping the torque of the machine as if it were factory size tires but u also loose top end when doing so. i run 30s with no clutch kit and i have had not issue at all. the only reason i would say is if the engine was not strong enough for the size tire u wanna run. which is y Honda owners run a gear reduction or yamaha owners run a clutch kit. from what i have heard a few members on here have gone with the "sport" clutch kit from EPI to get rid of the lag u get around 30 mph with the RSX. it is pretty noticable but speed is not a problem for me as i am not trying to race. (not yet anyway) from my experience the stock clutch is able to handle wat ever u wanna throw at it but its weakness is Heat. but if u ride at night during the summer or ur temps dont get over ehh lets say 90 u will b fine. also know that they changed the clutches on the 14 to the new clutch that the 860i will be using.

As Marcus said, the clutch kit changes the effective gear ratio. It will do nothing to correct a sticky clutch. Since Deeres supplier doesn't hand fit the clutch, probably because deere won't spend the extra money for it, unless you are just lucky enough to get the correct wear button fit for a hot climate, it will often stick in the heat. Once it sticks in the heat, it often galls the wear surfaces of the web and will never unstick.

Putting factory clutch after factory clutch might get you to one that is loose enough, but it is a roll of the dice. I have the equipment to disassemble these clutches and have learned how to properly fit the wear buttons. If you get them too tight you get a sticky clutch. Too loose and you have a noisy clutch. By many measures the clutch is the Achilles heal of these mostly otherwise great machines.

Bought new in Feb.2015 Have 374 miles and 50 hrs. No problems what so ever. This thing rocks! Did a little number last week, rolled it hard, bent cage and broke left rear axle. Totally my fault. It hauls firewood, pulls a grader, collects stones, pushes snow, and runs bush trails. Pulls a half pickup load of wood in box and trailer at 55 just because the limiter hits. Can't imagine a better unit.

I hear a lot about the clutch issues especially at temperature, and trying to change gears, I too have expirenced this, but what I found I don't believe it to be the clutch, but more of the gears/shifters not quite lined up, when mine does it, a quick little bump of the throttle and drops right in

I have about 50hrs and 550 pretty ruff miles now and I love every bit of it, I have also expirenced a random no start on the first try and a couple stalls but always comes right back to life, so it hasn't been a concern of mine, and most of it I can relate to driving conditions, however I changed the spark plugs and it hasn't done it since.

the only other issue I had is completely my fault, as I turned it into an oversized lawn dart! lol, I landed straight on the front bumper coming out of a large hole I was stuck in at night, and the opposite side was about a 10 ft drop off, after that the doors were jambed shut, we got them open and I had nothing but problems with door/latch alignment after that, until I realized the fender tubes above the front tires were a little bit bent, as well as the bumper, pulled them back out and all has been well ever since

I do this all the time.

I also encountered the door jammed shut issue. I have a pile of dirt in my field fron a previous adventure, it is about the size if a 10yd dump truck load that has been rained on for a year. Every so often I'll play around on it and get high centered and the door will open but not shut without pulling down on the door until I push myself off the pile. It exploits the frame flexing down and trying to spread the cab. The last time I drove over it I hit it with a little more gusto and landed on the belly pretty hard, and it slid right over. But my passenger couldnt open his door till we pried the latch mechanism open and the cage/door latch popped back into place.

No further issues other than what I bring upon myself. My machine has/will have a hard life.

Can someone who has replaced their clutch please tell me what I have to remove to get to the clutch? I'm having what seems to be the common clutch problem of not wanting to shift when hot. It looks like a major teardown to me. Thanks,
Dave

both seats need to be removed. then the gear lever cover and the panels around the middle of the machine. and the air filter housing. then u will need to remove the seat support that is held on with a few bolts and they u can get to the cover. also remove the driveshaft from the cover will be a snap ring keeping a roll pin from coming out. then u will have just the cover left to remove. thats about as simple as i can make it. had to do it twice.
